About Me

I am a EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Aerosol Science Ph.D. student in the Shiels Lab. My research studies the effects of the PAH pollutant phenanthrene on the cardiovascular system, focusing on how exposure impacts gene expression and immune profiles in the heart and liver.

My Background

I hold a BSc in Biomedical Science from the University of Manchester, where my final year project under Dr. Cyrill Bussy focused on assessing the toxicity of graphene nanoparticles on BEAS-2B human lung epithelial cells. This research provided valuable insights into the potential impacts of advanced materials on respiratory health.

I further pursued an MRes in Biochemistry at the University of Nottingham with Prof. Ian Kerr. My research centered on investigating the binding behavior of inhibitors targeting breast cancer resistance protein (ABCG2), contributing to a better understanding of drug resistance mechanisms in cancer therapy.

Currently, I am undertaking a PhD with the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Aerosol Science at the University of Manchester. My research explores the effects of the PAH pollutant phenanthrene on the cardiovascular system, focusing on how exposure impacts gene expression and immune profiles in the heart and liver using a mouse model.
